I'm sure my dog knows what the camera is, what it does & he definately knows how to work it infront of the lens! I very often find myself with my camera in my hand with no particular project on the go, or no planned shoots on that day. So I turn to Mr. Faithful, Snoop, my Staffordshire Bull Terrier - he is my go-to guy!
A couple of years ago I was sat down with my mum, going through family photographs trying to find a few good images of our family pet, Mutley - the runt of a litter of greyhounds. Mutley lived to be 14, outstanding for a dog of his breed. What was amazing was that through those years, no one had taken the time to get portraits of this amazing charcter that was an important part of our family. The best photo we found was infact on a reel of film of mine, which was part of my A-level course work. But it was only one image, and it is proudly framed in the dining room. Photographing Snoop has become an important part of my photography life, I truly enjoy capturing his expressions & little slices of his fun filled life. There are photographs of him everywhere in our home, we are even lucky enough to have a painting of him in our hall way, which was a fantastic wedding gift. I believe having good quality portraits of the family pets is very important, just as important as photographs of your children (says the man with none of his own). But unlike Mutley, getting left out is not an option for Snoop; I will always continue to capture and document his life that is so dear to my wife & I.
